20 Thank You Notes for Funeral Home Staff (Wording Examples)

When the funeral is over you usually realize it’s the funeral home staff that are the people who carried you through the worst of it. At the time you feel like you’re doing it all but then when it’s through how much all the staff contributed becomes apparent.

The director who answered your calls at some of the worst hours. The staff who set out the chairs and handled the paperwork, as well a guiding you through the most difficult decisions.

Sending a thank you note to them isn’t expected but it’s a kind thing to do. But most of us have no idea what to write.

You’re grateful for all they did but putting that into words after everything you’ve been through is like another difficult task when you’re already and have been through such a hard time.

So below are 20 thank you notes for funeral home staff you can use as they are or change to fit your own situation. There’s wording for the funeral director, for the whole team, some shorter notes for when you just want to keep it simple and some tips for writing your own.

What to Write in a Thank You Note to Funeral Home Staff

You don’t need say anything particularly special. A good thank you note only needs three things:

  • Greets the person or team you’re thanking – “Dear ______” or “To everyone at [funeral home name]” both work fine
  • Thank them for what they did and how they made you feel during such a hard time
  • End with a short signing off and your name (handwritten if you can)

That’s all its need to have. Speak from the heart and be honest.

If you’re also thanking other people who helped then our main guide on funeral thank you notes has more wording ideas for the likes of flowers and donations too.

Tips for Writing Your Note

  • Don’t stress about it sounding impressive. Something that is honest even if not perfect will be better than a note that’s very polished.
  • If you’re not sure of someone’s name, “Dear team” or “To everyone at [funeral home name]” is fine.
  • A handwritten note feels more personal than a typed one. But if you would find writing by hand too much at this time then don’t worry about it.
  • There’s no deadline. A few weeks after the funeral is ideal but people understand if it takes longer so send it whenever you’re ready.
  • If the staff also handled food or catering you might want a separate note for that. Our thank you notes for funeral food can help with the wording.

It can be tough to thank the people who looked after you and your loved one but hopefully these examples have made the process a bit easier for you.
